What happens if no one is home to meet the Alternative Parcels Company Ltd couriers?
If no one is home, our courier will either leave a card to say they have attempted delivery, or they will leave the parcel in a safe place or with a neighbour. The calling card will ask you (or your gift recipient) to contact them to re-arrange delivery, or to arrange collection of the wine - whichever is the most convenient. You may find it easier to authorise our courier to leave the order in a certain place. There is a textbox in the shopping checkout where delivery instructions can be left should no one be home to meet the delivery person. Please do let us know if you want our courier to leave your order in a certain spot (e.g. at back door, in shed, with neighbour etc). If a calling card is left it is your (or your gift recipients) responsibility to call the courier within 2 working days, otherwise the wine will be returned to The Fine Wine Company. You can then either collect your parcel from us, or pay our cost price for us to re-deliver (currently £8.95 per dozen bottles, UK mainland).
Faulty Wine
On the (extremely!) rare occasions you may discover a faulty wine, we will of course offer a full refund once returned. Please telephone on 0131 669 7716 or contact us for further details.
Tasting Tickets
Please note that once we've despatched them, refunds can only be issued in the instance that we are able to resell your ticket(s).
Breakages
Our transit boxes are designed to withstand most things, but wine does however sometimes break in transit. Alternative Parcels Company Ltd advises us if there are any breakages in a daily delivery audit of all parcels sent the previous day. We resend all breakages as soon as they tell us of any problems. It is, however, still very important that you let us know of any breakages once received so we can arrange replacement wine for you as quickly as possible. We will always replace any wine broken in transit, be it your own personal wine, or in wine gifts sent to your customers, staff, family or friends. Please always check both the number of parcels and the condition of any wines you sign for - as we cannot be held liable for any breakages once you have accepted and signed for them.
Cooling Off Period
Under the Distance Selling Regulations, you may cancel a distance contract to purchase a product or products from us at any time within 7 working days after the day you received the relevant product or products (subject to the limitations set out below).
In order to cancel a contract in this way, you must give to us written notice of cancellation. This can be done by email to info@finewinecompany.co.uk quoting your order reference number, full name and address.
If you cancel a contract on this basis, you must promptly return the products to us, in the same condition in which you received them. Items must be returned in their original packaging and in re-saleable as new condition.
If you cancel a contract on this basis, you will be refunded in full the cost of the goods. However, we are unable to refund any initial outbound delivery charge you have paid, and you will be responsible for paying the cost of returning the product to us.
Please be mindful that until the product is safely returned to us it is your responsibility to ensure it stays in perfect condition. Returned items will be fully checked and photographed on return. Any items that are received by us in a damaged condition will not be eligible for return or refund, and any such items will be returned to you.
Statutory rights
Nothing in these terms of sale affects your statutory rights (including your right to receive a refund in respect of any defective product we sell to you).
Why you can feel secure shopping with us
When you shop with us, our secure server encrypts all of your personal information, including name, address and credit card information. We use SagePay which are an industry leader in secure internet transactions. SagePay are used by thousands of other UK businesses for transaction security.
Industry leading transaction security
All transaction information passed between our website and the SagePay Payment System is encrypted using 128-bit SSL certificates. No cardholder information is ever passed unencrypted and all messages from SagePay are signed using MD5 hashing to prevent tampering. You can be completely secure in the knowledge that nothing passed to SagePay can be examined, used or modified by any third parties attempting to gain access to sensitive information.
Internationally recognised encryption and data storage
Once on the SagePay system, all sensitive data is secured using the same internationally recognised 256-bit encryption standards used by, among others, the US Government. The encryption keys are held on state-of-the-art, tamper proof systems in the same family as those used to secure VeriSign's Global Root certificate, making them all but impossible to extract. The data they hold is extremely secure and they are regularly audited by the banks and banking authorities to ensure it remains so.
Private network links to banks
SagePay has multiple private links into the banking network that are completely separate from the Internet and which do not cross any publicly accessible networks. Any cardholder information sent to the banks and any authorisation message coming back is secure and cannot be tampered with.
Employee access
No individuals within our company or SagePay are able to decrypt transaction information or cardholder data. Their systems only allow access to our most senior staff and only in extenuating circumstances (such as investigations of Card Fraud by the Police). Your card information is secure even from their own employees because the systems never display the full card numbers, even on administration screens.
